Terms of Service

1. What Fluentessa Is

Fluentessa ("Fluentessa", "the Service", "we", "us") is a subscription web service that lets you read annotated bilingual editions of literary works in your browser. Each edition pairs an original-language text with an English translation and short inline notes generated by our software, to help people learning the language read real books.

We select the works in our catalog, produce the translations and annotations, and publish the resulting bilingual editions for our subscribers to read. You do not submit, upload, or supply any source text to the Service. The Service is operated by MicroSaaS Labs.

These Terms govern your use of the Service. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Accounts and Eligibility

Reading requires a free account. You sign in with your email address through our authentication provider; you are responsible for keeping access to that email secure and for activity that happens under your account. Accounts are for individual people — you may not share an account or your access with others.

You must be at least 13 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. Provide accurate information when you sign up, and let us know if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. Free Access and Subscriptions

Some content is free to read with an account — including the full text of Contes de Perrault and a preview of every other title in the catalog. A paid subscription unlocks the full catalog, including titles we add over time.

Current plans and prices are shown on our pricing page and again at checkout before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, depending on your plan) until you cancel. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, Creem; we do not receive or store your full card details.

4. Cancellation and Refunds

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. When you cancel, you keep access through the end of the billing period you have already paid for; we do not charge you again after that. When a subscription ends, you can still read the free Contes de Perrault and the previews of other titles, but the rest of the catalog requires an active subscription.

Annual plan: we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee — email us within 30 days of a charge and we will refund it. Monthly plan: refunds are handled case by case; contact us and we will usually help, especially if you have read little since the charge. Where the Service fails to deliver access you have paid for, we will refund the affected amount.

5. Your License to the Content, and Acceptable Use

While your account is in good standing, we grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to access and read the bilingual editions available to your plan, in the Fluentessa reader, for your own private, non-commercial language learning. Full license terms are in the Book License.

You agree not to:

  • Redistribute, publicly post, resell, sublicense, or otherwise share the translations, annotations, or bilingual editions with anyone else;
  • Scrape, bulk-download, copy, or systematically extract the catalog or its annotated content by any automated or manual means;
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with paywalls, access controls, rate limits, or other security or technical measures;
  • Use the Service or its content for any commercial purpose, or to build or train a competing product or dataset;
  • Misrepresent authorship of the translations or annotations, or use the Service in any unlawful way or in violation of these Terms.

6. Intellectual Property

The original literary works in our catalog are in the public domain (or are otherwise works we have the right to use), and we claim no ownership of those underlying texts. The translations, annotations, their alignment and presentation, together with the Fluentessa software, design, and the compilation of the catalog, are owned by MicroSaaS Labs or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. They are licensed to you under these Terms and the Book License, not sold. The "Fluentessa" name and logo are our trademarks.

7. Public-Domain Sourcing and Copyright Concerns

We make commercially reasonable efforts to include only works that are in the public domain, or that we are otherwise permitted to use, in the regions where we operate. If you believe a work in our catalog infringes your rights, please contact us at fluentessa.app@gmail.com with: (a) identification of the work and where it appears in the Service, (b) your contact information, (c) the basis for your claim, and (d) a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the rights holder. We will review the claim and, where appropriate, remove or disable access to the work.

8. AI-Generated Content

Translations and annotations are produced by AI language models through a multi-stage pipeline with automated consistency checks. AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors or awkward phrasing. The Service is a language learning aid, not a certified or professional translation service, and should not be relied on as such. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us through the feedback form — it helps us improve.

9. Availability and Changes to the Service

We may add, change, or remove catalog titles and features, and we may modify or discontinue parts of the Service. We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may suspend access for maintenance, security, or to protect the Service.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MicroSaaS Labs will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us in the twelve (12) months before the claim or USD 50.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MicroSaaS Labs and Fluentessa from any claim, demand, or damages — including reasonable legal fees — arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service or its content.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where reasonable, notify you. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
